Assignment#1 Summary

Enabling Technologies
  • Web-based Network Management : Classic Web-Based Network Management (WBNM) is the ability to monitor and actively manage a network through the Browser User Interface(BUI), display technologies for network management. But recently great advance in Web technologies make it possible to construct new management framework including Information Modeling, Management Protocol
  • CORBA-based Network Management : CORBA-based Network Management is a design and implementation approach for an open, standards-based, extensible, and distributed network management using CORBA.
  • Policy-based Network Management : PBNM provides the ability to define and distribute policies to manage heterogeneous networks. These policies control critical network resources such as bandwidth, security and Web access.
  • Agent Technologies in Network Management - Mobile & Intelligent Agent : Mobile agent is an autonomous software entities that behave in accordance with self-contained intelligence (knowledge and inference) while moving network.
  • Jini-based Network Management : ºÐ»êµÇ¾î ÀÖ´Â ³×Æ®¿÷ ȯ°æ¿¡¼ È¿°úÀûÀ¸·Î ³×Æ®¿÷À» °ü¸® Çϱâ¶õ ¿©°£ Èûµç ÀÏÀÌ ¾Æ´Ï´Ù. ³×Æ®¿÷ Àåºñµéµµ °ü¸®ÀÚÀÇ ¼öµ¿ÀûÀÎ °£¼·ÀÌ ÇÊ¿äÇÏ°Ô µÇ´Âµ¥, ÀÚ¹Ù¸¦ ±â¹ÝÀ¸·Î ÇÑ JINI ¾ÆÅ°ÅØÃĸ¦ ÀÌ¿ë ( Lookup service )ÇÏ°Ô µÇ¸é FlexibleÇÏ¸ç °ü¸®ÀÚÀÇ Á÷Á¢ÀûÀÎ °³ÀÔÀÌ ¾ø´Â µ¿ÀûÀÎ ³×Æ®¿÷ °ü¸®°¡ °¡´ÉÇÏ°Ô µÈ´Ù.
  • Active Network Techniques in Network Management - Programmable Network Element : Active network is a framework where network elements, primarily routers and switches, are programmable. Programs that are injected into the network are executed by the network elements to achieve higher flexibility for networking functions, and to present new capabilities for higher layer functions by allowing data fusion in the network layer.

Management Target
  • Home Network Management : Home Networking is the collection of technologies and services that make it possible to connect multiple computing and information devices at home. Home networking ushers in a new era of entertainment and convenience for consumers. The most successful and useful home networks will be simple, reliable, secure, and inexpensive.

  • Management of IP networks : Networks and services based on the Internet Protocol (IP) are proliferating, being offered in many different forms by a variety of vendors and service providers. Historically, the Internet was designed in such a way that it did not have to be carefully managed for the types of traffic and services it carried. Today, with more types of traffic being placed on IP networks, real-time traffic in particular, network management is becoming more of a concern. We need to check the issues that arise in managing IP networks, in contrast to managing other types of networks, and different management strategies that may be important to vendors and service providers.
  • Application QoS : Should applications be "network aware" or should networks be "application aware"? Application QoS is another important topic of QoS management area.
  • Wireless Network Management : Wireless network and systems will be dominant within next decade. And Wireless systems are much different and more complex than current netwrok devices. So, wireless network management is a task worth the trouble.
